Watch the trailer for LOW IN EUROPE (QuickTime)
Plexi UK is pleased to announce the release of LOW IN EUROPE, a documentary which follows American indie rock pioneers Low on a string of tour dates in Germany and the UK. Premiering at the Melbourne International Film Festival and selected for the Gijon and the Sound Unseen Film Festivals, LOW IN EUROPE shows the Duluth, Minnesota trio of Alan Sparhawk, Mimi Parker and Zak Sally on a grueling tour for their critically acclaimed album TRUST.
The honesty they bring to their very personal music is revealed to us through this glimpse into their lives on tour; Mimi and Alan's marriage and child, their beliefs, their dreams and their fears. Playing their hypnotic, celestial and intense music in German rock clubs in Dresden, Cologne, Hamburg and Berlin, the film culminates with an enthralling performance at a sold-out show at London's legendary Union Chapel.
Director Sebastian Schrade climbed into the tour van with Low, braving sleep deprivation, road hypnosis, warm beer, cold food and 1,000 cigarettes to document last year's tour across Europe and the UK. Told through van ride conversations, backstage banter, hotel room chats and late night revelations, LOW IN EUROPE is an illuminating portrait of a group making mesmerising music at the height of their powers.
"It's simple music that's extraordinarily powerful. Proof that less is indisputably more. Slow and brooding, sparse and intense, desolate and hypnotic."
-Chris Salmon, TIME OUT
"Slow, austere rock bliss."
-Martin Aston, THE TIMES
"Low's songs are like Shaker chairs: unadorned, timelessly beautiful, and obviously made by human hands."
-Michael Little, WASHINGTON CITY PAPER
"Quiet, moody songs that captivate listeners not with fireworks but with unforgiving introspection."
- THE WASHINGTON POST
Sebastian Schrade was born in Reutlingen, Germany in 1967. LOW IN EUROPE is his second feature documentary.
